Our local 40K group is doing an escalation league. I'm pretty excited about getting in on the "ground floor" of this, and I am fairly confident that GW won't be dropping any FAQ bombs on me during the duration of the league; mostly because I will be playing a faction that's already got one. (At least I think I am....)
I'm considering something other than my lovely Black Tide, and man is Big Sword yelling at me. I'm kind of considering something similar, but with a little more GW love....
Yeah, I'm thinking about Grey Knights. My main issue is that I don't have the codex yet, so making a list is an entirely hinky proposition. So at the moment, I am still thinking BT- but I am open to other ideas.
However, making the list for the league is a new kind of thought puzzle entirely- the first two weeks will require some creative thinking.
For the first two weeks, we have to build our armies using the Kill Teams organization rules- but our missions will come from the Big Red Book.
My initial thought was to use a Ven Dred and some Termies, and bam! I would be done. However, after re-examining the board with the league rules, I realized we're not using KillTeams for anything except force org in weeks 1 and 2.
So I need troops and something kill-y in order to have a shot at winning. So maybe a LRC with some space doodz inside?? I don't quite know- I need something with troop selection, but good defense capability.
Ideas welcome as always, and GK thoughts are still running through my head. Or maybe Orks. I miss the green guys and their craziness... and their red paint, and their trukks....

[40K] Black Templar Questions Again Plus AWESOME Pictures!
So I've recently been checking out other people's lists in an effort to get better as a list designer. Or maybe it's that I'm making crib notes/outright stealing ideas. Either way, I have seen something pretty disturbing that I do not understand.
I am seeing BT lists with EC tricked out with things other than AAC. And for the love of killing Xenos scum (sorry, Leebo), I honestly can't fathom why.
Can anyone help a girl out?
Also on the "Stuff I'm thinking about" list is my StormRaven. Some of you that have been reading a while may remember that TheDude gave it to me for my birthday. It is finally converted, assembled and primed and I want to show it off! It's only 6 months later so I don't feel even a little bit lazy! (And I truthfully shouldn't as I did none of the work. FunDave did it all, and tried to claim my bird for himself, the turkey.)
So here we have some shots of her all dressed up:
Front view of the lady of death [I cannot tell you how much I am smiling. I just LOVE HER!!!]
And of course, you have to have a profile shot! You cannot see the tail conversion well in any picture, but I had the tail turned "upside down" because I liked the look much better.
This is how FunDave did it- the cross bar is totally invisible from the outside, but keeps the doors/bolters on perfectly.
So there's my girl... I now need a reason to take her out for a drive/ride/killing spree ...
And as an extra special treat...
I've talked off and on about my Orks from way back when. I know I discussed at length how horrifically ugly and putrid they were- and how I did it on purpose. I gave these guys away, so I didn't have them available to show photographic evidence of how terrible they really are.
You're in luck- the Orks were on loan to a guy who is learning the game and I got some primo pictures to share with you.. bask in their hideous glory.
There's more...
And here's one I was sort of proud of at one time-
and his back ...

Hurrican bolters for the win, baby!
Or, a door if you want troops.

[40K] Not A Loss
I didn't play at 40K the last session- a variety of reasons, but I didn't mind.
I let a friend use my Templar as proxies- a different friend than last time around. However, Darius is seriously upset with me as the friend proxied my zealots as 'NIDS. I heard some very unhappy words as I brought my bag back home, and I've tried to placate him with concepts of preaching to the infidels - but it's not an easy task. Something about Xenos scum and so forth.
I was fairly bogged down with the counter for most of the night. I missed watching my best pal playing his Orks with exception of a couple moments. I heard his WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH go off (man, he is loud) and I heard him laughing as he blew something up.
Things started to wrap up, and people started packing up. I overheard my buddy - "now the KP are 3 to 6" (in his opponent's favor) in a fun and lighthearted tone. A moment or two later, I heard a huge whoop and my friend began running around the store like a maniac.
He was shouting and hollering, happy as possible.
"I TIED!!!!! I TIED!!!! I TIED!!!!"
I was laughing, just enjoying the sheer ridiculousness of his antics for a moment or two. As I caught my breath, several people mentioned that they'd never seen anyone so happy about a tie. His response was simple, but enjoyable-
" I didn't lose!"
This was literally his third game, and he was over the moon happy over a tie. He's completely new at everything about playing and forgot a bunch of rules- but it didn't matter.
I love the game for moments like that- the sheer enjoyment of "not a loss" is well worth the headache and aggravation of the rules. I'm glad I got to see it.
