Zanazaz: I heard it and even called the cops about it (but for a different reason than 'my car's busted'). I didn't see that there was damage until the nice policeman showed up with his big light.
ze: totally undriveable. That rear well is caved in and the rear axle is broken. The back tire is crunched into the frame, and the frame is visible from the outside of the car.
It is not too much of a stretch to guess a drunk driver did this, not that this observation helps you any. Can the car be repaired (at a reasonable cost), or is it considered totaled?
The driver was indeed intoxicated- and without a DL and had multiple citations against him.
I don't know whether it can be salvaged or not. (I personally doubt it seriously.) Insurance comes to look at it Monday and we will find out from there.
Oh no, I'm so sorry about the terrible news! At least the person was stopped before anyone was injured or worse. Sorry though about the loss and inconvenience of it all. I hope things work out okay for you.
Man! While I'm glad that the damage was confined to property, it's still a damned shame. My girlfriend had a car she loved that suffered a similar fate...
So sorry to hear that... I totally understand how you feel, I had found my car in a WAY worse shape when I tried to pick it up one Sunday morning a couple of years ago to go for a ride, 2 weeks after I had bought it!! The damage was about 3500 Euros, thankfully the drunk driver's friend was kind enough to leave me a note with his number and the insurance paid the damage, but still, it was a brand new car and you can imagine my shock!! [EDIT;some minor syntax errors]
Oh my gosh! That is terrible. I am so sorry that happened. Car accidents are such a drag, especially when you love the car.
ReplyDeleteOuch. That's horrible. Did you hear the crash or was it too late at night?
ReplyDeleteBugger.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what else to say, really.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about our car but very happy to hear that you are alright.

ReplyDeleteAh crap - what a bummer! You have my sympathy. Insurance? Is it drivable at least or is that rear wheel well caved in?

ReplyDeleteHopefully the cops track down the person who hit it.

Hope it all turns out ok, mate.
ReplyDeleteWell, that is a bummer, but at least you are alright. He didn't hit you while driving, and that's a lot to be thankful for.

ReplyDeleteHoly... that just sucks. I hope that things turn out okay real soon.
